Key Responsibilities

The goals and responsibilities of this position include:
  • Evaluating the potential benefits and limitations of alternative programming frameworks, particularly in terms of maintaining current functionalities, whilst enabling GitHub-based version control, and increased scripting flexibility.
  • Following the evaluation of alternative programming frameworks, transitioning various existing lab automation scripts to the selected programming environment, ensuring enhanced flexibility, robustness and version control.
  • As a secondary project, develop a standalone analytical tool for extracting operational insights from lab automation instruments. 
  • Preparing documentation and training materials for newly developed methodologies and tools to share internship learnings. 
This role reports directly to Keltoum Boukra, Sr. Automation Engineer I, and will work in close collaboration with the entire BigHat Lab Automation Team.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • You are currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, with a strong interest in Biotechnology, Lab Sciences, or Lab Automation technologies.
  • You possess foundational programming skills, in Python and ideally but not necessarily, in C++ or C, with some familiarity with front-end technologies like JavaScript.
  • You have an interest in data science, including data parsing, basic analysis, and dashboard creation.
  • You have excellent problem-solving skills, a creative and innovative mindset, and a proactive approach to overcoming technical challenges.
  • You are a strong communicator, capable of effectively articulating technical concepts and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment and are eager to apply your skills to real-world lab automation challenges.
  • Prior experience in a lab setting is a plus but not required.
